Aiming for the stars

Hyderabad's Sameer Rahman Khan is among the top contestants shortlisted for the Mr Dubai pageant.

The glamour and glitz of the world of showbiz have time and again lured many away from lucrative white-collar jobs. Sameer Rahman Khan, a 27-year-old Hyderabad lad, is all set to follow this path. Sameer is one of the 17 contestants shortlisted for the Mr Dubai pageant. After completing his education in India, Sameer had moved to Dubai for a job five years ago. However, his passion for modelling and acting motivated him to apply for the pageant.

“I heard about the pageant from my friends who urged me to go ahead and take the plunge. I auditioned for it and got selected. I have taken a break from work to just focus on the pageant. At present, I am with the team in Dubai, going through several grooming sessions,” he says. Elaborating on his experience, Sameer says, “Every weekend we have been slogging for long stretches to perfect ourselves. My biggest challenge has been to get into shape. Although I had always been a fitness freak, it was not before last year that I finally got the body I had always longed, with the help of a proper diet. I believe that a proper diet is just as important as working out.”

The contest finale will be held in January next year with various competitive rounds. “There will be a group dance, a talent round and individual interviews at the final stage,” Sameer shares. Ask him about his plans after Mr Dubai, and he says, “If I win, it will open a lot of doors for me. I will then leave my work here in Dubai and shift to Mumbai to pursue modelling and acting. I may not succeed, but at least I will not have any regrets that I didn’t give it a try,’ he signs off.
