Bengaluru: 5-day music, dance fest kicks off today

Bengaluru: With more a 1000 students and hundreds of performances to their credit, the Indiranagar Sangeetha sabha, is organising the fourth International Conference of Music and Dance. Her Highness, Pramoda Devi Wadiyar will inaugurate the five-day event on Saturday morning.

The conference kicks off with the conferring of the Purandara Awards. Padma Bhushan Dr Padma Subrahamnyam, the renowned highly versatile dancer who is also known for her prowess as a musician, composer and Indologist, will receive the award this year. The award will be conferred by SNS Murthy, former DG & IGP, Karnataka and long-time patron of the Indiranagar Sangeetha Sabha. The Yuva Purandara awards, given to rising stars, goes to M.B. Hariharan and B.Ashok, the Carnatic vocal duo from Bengaluru. Ramakrishnan Murthy, a popular Carnatic Musician is the recipient from outside the state. Western music has found a place in the Conference this year, a first, said SNS Murthy, of the Indiranagar Sangeetha Sabha.
