Visakhapatnam: Photo journalism steals the limelight at expo

Most of the pictures showcased in the two-day expo were on how photo journalism has impacted society.

Visakhapatnam: Around 1,000 students from various schools and colleges in the city turned up for a two day photography expo held by members of the Vizag Photo Journalists Association (VPJA) to mark the 177th World Photography Day at Visakha Museum on Saturday.

On Saturday morning, members of the association along with the city’s print and electronic media and photography clubs took part in a ‘Photo Walk’ on beach road.

District collector, Pravin Kumar who flagged off the event walked along with the photo grapher community from RK Beach to Submarine Museum as a gesture of appreciation.

Most of the pictures showcased in the two-day expo were on how photo journalism has impacted society.

The expo was inaugurated by GVMC commissioner M. Hari Narayanan. The commissioner appreciated the photographs shot by news photographers and encouraged them to hold such expos regularly.

Tips from stalwarts
Students of Sri Prakash Vidyaniketan on World Photography Day got to interact with a number of stalwarts from the field of photography.

Well known veteran photographers B.K. Agrawal, C.V. Subramanyam, professional photographer and Captain Suresh Sharma, Indian Army veteran, team leader Green Dot expeditions shared with budding photographers the nuances of taking good pictures.

They advised students to fuel the desire to capture every moment as they embark their journey in photography.

Captain Suresh Sharma presented a book Legacy of a Legend MiG 21 in the Indian Air Force, as a token of appreciation to the institution. The newsletter ‘Young Smiles’ was released by the dignitaries made the occasion a one to cherish for a long time.
