Amitha, a seasoned VFX artist has worked on the VFX creatives of both the trailer and the movie. In a chat with us, she shares the inside track...
Despite being born in Chennai, Amitha considers herself a true blue Bengalurean. Talking about what inspired her to take the plunge into the VFX industry, she says, “This is something that I have been wanting to do since school. One of my aunts was a VFX supervisor, and her work truly intrigued me.”
Hailing from an illustrious filmi background (She is veteran actress Sumalatha’s niece), Amitha always knew she would do something as a part of the movie industry. “Although I wanted to get into films, acting was not where my interest lay. I wanted to do something behind the scenes...
I’ve often wondered how explosions are done in movies. I wanted to be behind the scene and create something unique. VFX for movies require a lot of skills and I have not seen many girls enter this line,” Amitha adds, and considers it as an achievement in itself to have made it in the VFX industry. On how the opportunity came by, she shares “The company that I work does a lot of Lego movies. Prior to this, I was working on a series called Shimmer and Shine. Just for an environment change, I was put on board for this project. I consider this to be the best project till now as it has an amazing story-line and unique effects - much of which are related to the live action movie. Since Lego and Marvel were checking it in the end, everything had to be as per their standards.”
Amitha has worked as the VFX artist for both the movie and the trailer. “I have had a hand in mostly all of the dynamic effects like the shooting sequence or anything that is action packed or anything getting destroyed,” she adds. The VFX industry in the country has made immense progress in the past few years. Sharing her thoughts on this, “The FX line has developed in the country and especially in the Bengaluru. In a movie, over 70 percent of the movie be it live action scenes or CGI is totally VFX.” Amitha’s only word of advise for people wanting to join this stream is to keep going and working hard. Talking about her projects that she working on currently, this graduate from Jain College says, “As of now I am working on two projects simultaneously. One is a French story called Heidi and the other one is Noddy. When she is not busy with these projects, Amitha tries to catch up on the TV series she missed.
