Budding artistic talents

Sisters Rula and Rajiyah are the stars of the art exhibition The Tint Effect'.

When Ahammed and Maussam of Kakkody saw their daughters busy painting, they did not drag them out of the world of colours. Instead, these parents stood with them to convert their study into a huge canvas. In fact, Rula Mariya, a class VI student of Peace International School, and Rajiyah, a class XII student of Providence School, also had the support of their cousin Nazmi Hussain, who is a student at NIFT Kannur. Together, they are hosting an exhibition ‘The Tint Effect’ at the Kerala Lalithakala Akademi Art Gallery, Kozhikode.

Rula, the youngest of the sisters, is the star of the exhibition. Out of the 36 pictures being exhibited at the gallery, almost 12 are of Rula’s. “The very reason for us to come up with this idea is Rula herself,” says Nazmi, adding, “Her imagination and works are remarkable and it is to encourage Rula that we ventured out.”

Rula started painting right from the age of five. Most of her pictures are sceneries with acrylic color. “I don’t go for a specific theme but sketches come to my mind first,” she says. This is applicable to the whole exhibition too. “There is no theme. The viewers are given the freedom to make their own inferences,” little Rula says.

Like Nazmi, both Rula and Rajiyah plan to take up a profession that boosts their skill and passion for art. The exhibition will conclude on May 6 and is open from 11 am onwards.
