KVP and Raghuveera's book 'Rythe Rajayithe...' to be released today

ANANTAPUR: 'Rythe Rajayithe.. Vyavasayam Pandage'.. a book on former chief minister late Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy, over his efforts to bring cheer among the people in drought-hit areas through irrigation schemes, will be released in Hyderabad on September 2.

The day marks the anniversary of the former chief minister’s death in a helicopter crash.

Rajasekhar Reddy's close friend and senior Congress leader K.V.P. Ramachandra Rao and CWC member N. Raghuveera Reddy wrote the book, explaining Rajasekhar Reddy’s love towards the state’s agriculture sector.

The irrigation sector had been badly hit in the state, mainly in drought-prone Rayalaseema region, ever since Independence. Rajasekhar Reddy as CM gave top priority to diversion of Krishna water through Srisailam backwaters. The Handri Neeva Sujala Shravanthi and Galeru Nagari Sujala Shravanthi projects were introduced in the five-year period of Rajasekhar Reddy.

Raghuveera Reddy, a Congress Working Committee member and former agriculture minister in Rajasekhar Reddy’s government, told Deccan Chronicle that YSR had a great vision for developing the irrigation sector in the state.

“We mentioned all the efforts of Rajasekhar Reddy. He made exclusive efforts in providing Krishna waters to areas like Madakasira and Hindupur through lift irrigation projects. He never felt it was expensive to give water to drought-hit areas and strongly believed water sources could bring cheer to farmer families,” he recalled.

Raghuveera Reddy said the reason behind the book was to recall the services of Rajasekhar Reddy for the welfare of the farming community.
