ACSR Govt Medical College all set to introduce PG courses this year

NELLORE: AC Subba Reddy Government Medical College, established in 2014 at Nellore, is all set to launch PG courses in the ensuing academic year. The College applied for PG seats in various departments to the National Medical Council (NMC) and is hopeful of obtaining 115 to 120 seats in various courses under clinical and non-clinical subjects.

The medical college also paid the mandatory fees of Rs 49 lakh for the courses.

Sources in the institute said that they had applied for two seats each in PG courses in non-clinical subjects in Anatomy, Physiology, Pharmacology, Micro Biology, Forensic Medicine, Bio-Chemistry, Pathology, and SPM (Social and Preventive Medicine).

In addition to this, the college also sought 104 PG seats in clinical subjects such as General Medicine, General Surgery, OBG (Obstetrics and Gynaecology), Ophthalmology, ENT, Paediatrics, Orthopaedics, and Pulmonology.

According to sources in the institute, NMC has already conducted the inspection. There is a provision to inspect the facilities and infrastructure for the courses even after sanction.

Faculty such as professors and associate professors who are teaching undergraduate students can teach PG students as well, a faculty member said when asked about teaching staff for PG students.

He said that PG seats were allotted at the rate of 3 seats under each professor and 2 seats under each associate professor.

He informed that some departments were going to enhance the seats, and PG seats were sought for some new departments like Radiology starting this year.

More than anything, the outreach of medical services in the Government General Hospital attached to the college will improve manifold because of PG courses as hospital duty is part of their routine, similar to duty doctors for the PG students. In fact, the services in the GGH are certain to become better and better as nearly 120 PG students are added every year, a senior faculty member said.
