IISER-Tirupati organises third convocation

The third batch of students, who joined the five-year BS-MS degree in Sciences in August 2017, have completed all the academic requirements

TIRUPATI: The third convocation of the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER) – Tirupati, which was set up in 2015 as a part of the AP Reorganisation Plan, was held at the permanent campus of the Institute, which is coming up at Yerpedu, Tirupati district.

The third batch of students, who joined the five-year BS-MS degree in Sciences in August 2017, have completed all the academic requirements and have been conferred their Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees in the third convocation of the Institute, held in hybrid mode, with members of the Senate, graduating students, parents, and other participants in person and the rest joining the function online.

Prof. Gagandeep Kang, FRS, Division of Gastrointestinal Science, CMC, Vellore, who was the chief guest, delivered the convocation address. Prof. J.B. Joshi, Emeritus Scientist, Institute of Chemical Technology, Mumbai, who is also the chairperson of the IISER-Tirupati Board of Governors, presided over the function, while Prof. K.N. Ganesh, Director, IISER-Tirupati, presented his report on the academic and research achievements of the Institute.

In addition to the three Ph.D. students, 88 students of the 2017 batch were conferred BS-MS degrees, and one student was conferred with a BS degree in the convocation. A student, D. Balasubramanian, was awarded the Institute’s Gold Medal for securing the highest CGPA. Three students—Abhinava Mazumder, Meera Joy, and Ranganatha B.R. were awarded the Institute’s Silver Medals for securing the second highest CGPA in 2022, and one student, Megha Maria Jacob, was awarded the Institute Prize for Best Graduating Student in 2022 in the convocation.
