Tamil actor and music composer Vijay Antony shared his first statement on Thursday following the tragic death of his 16-year-old daughter.

Tamil actor and music composer Vijay Antony shared his first statement on Thursday following the tragic death of his 16-year-old daughter, Meera, who was found dead at their Chennai home on Tuesday, in an apparent case of suicide. After cremating his daughter, Vijay Antony took to the platform X (formerly known as Twitter) to express his grief.

In his statement, loosely translated from Tamil, Vijay Antony expressed, "To all you kind-hearted people, my beloved daughter Meera was brave and filled with love. She has now found solace in a better place, free from the constraints of caste, religion, money, envy, pain, poverty, and vengeance. She continues to communicate with me."

He continued, "With her departure, a part of me has also departed. I now spend my time with her. All the good deeds I undertake from this moment onwards will be in her memory." Meera was discovered dead in her room around 3 am on September 19. Vijay Antony rushed her to a nearby private hospital, but she was declared dead upon arrival.

Meera was a student at a private school in Chennai, where she excelled academically and held the position of cultural secretary head. Her sudden demise shocked those who knew her, and many from the Tamil film industry extended their condolences to Vijay and his family.

Actor Jayam Ravi tweeted, "It’s heartbreaking to hear about the loss of your daughter @vijayantony brother. To all the children out there, please know that you are cherished, valued, and never alone. We are living only for your happiness and love. Life is full of ups and downs, and you have the power to overcome the challenges… Whatever you face, share it with your parents; we are here to support you. RIP Meera."

Meera was Vijay and his wife Fatima's elder daughter, and she was laid to rest on Wednesday. At the funeral, Fatima tearfully bid farewell to her daughter, expressing, "I carried you in my womb... You could have said a word to me," as reported by local media outlet Thanthi TV.
