I am just a common man: Pawan Kalyan

Pawan Kalyan on his political roots and future plans.

Pawan Kalyan wants to give up films in a couple of years and concentrate on his political career. And though he started his political unit, Jana Sena, before the last general elections, he says that the idea of having a political presence has been with him since his childhood.

“My father and pedananna (father’s elder brother) were from a Communist background. They told me that they used to tour many places when they were students. When I was a child, they would discuss current issues, most of their topics were political and I wanted to fight against those issues,” he says.

That’s how the seed of politics was planted in him. “In school there were many patriotic and history lessons, and the way my social science teachers taught me, I will remember them forever. So when I grew up, those thoughts were still very strong in my mind. I thus wanted to do something,” he adds.

After his graduation he wanted to raise those issues and wanted to join politics. “My brother (Chiranjeevi) was worried as I was just roaming around and he thought I would go the wrong way, so he put me into films,” he says, adding, “But, I knew that my impatience, anger and sense of justice would take me into politics.” He adds that he expresses his anger through his films.

“I heard many dialogues in films, and I asked myself why couldn’t I do the same in real life? Initially, I was under lot of pressure and was also scared. But I decided to face whatever came, whether good or bad, and stay strong,” says the actor. “Even now my thoughts are like that of a common man and I never feel that I am a big star and that people adore me,” he adds.
