After the super success of Salaar, the makers of Prabhas’ upcoming films are full of confidence again.
It has been announced that Kalki 2898 AD will be released on May 9, 2024, a significant date for the film’s producer Aswini Dutt. His earlier films Jagadeka Veerudu Athiloka Sundari, Mahanati and Maharshi were all released on that date, and went on to become blockbusters.
The announcement has brought cheer to the superstar’s fans, who anticipate that Kalki too will script history at the box office.
When we asked Dutt about the significance of the date, he said, “From the iconic Jagadeka Veerudu Athiloka Sundari to the award-winning Mahanati and Maharshi, this date has etched itself in our history. Now, the release of Kalki 2898 AD featuring artistes like Amitabh Bachchan, Prabhas, Kamal Haasan and Deepika Padukone marks a special moment for us. And coming as it does in the banner’s milestone 50th year, it becomes even more significant as we continue our journey.”
Reminding us that the success of the earlier films made the date very special, he said, “We are hoping that Kalki will recreate the magic.” Dutt added that it was a decision taken by the entire unit to release the film on that date.
When asked about the expectations the film has been carrying, he replied that it would give audiences a new experience. “I am not at liberty to reveal much at this point but the film will give a different experience – something that we haven’t witnessed earlier,” he said.
Apart from the sentimental significance of the date, it also happens to fall in the holiday season, which will give the film a huge advantage. The fact that no other big film releases are scheduled around that time is an extra plus, particularly as it is becoming increasingly rare for a big ticket flick to enjoy a release sans competition
So, on the whole, Kalki’s makers seem to have picked the release date mindfully.
