A celluloid tribute to Y S Rajasekhara Reddy

Biopics are all the rage in T-town, where the next one is being made on the life of late Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy.

Looks like its raining biopics in Tollywood. After the biopics on NTR, Savithri, Pullela Gopi-chand and Uyyalawada Narasimha Reddy were announced, joining the bandwagon would be a biopic on former AP Chief Minister late Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy (YSR).

Tollywood is buzzing with news that director Mahi V. Raghav of Anandobrahma fame is penning a story on the life of Rajasekhara Reddy to be produced by Vijay Chilla and Shashi Devireddy. The makers have even registered the title as Yatra. Since YSR came into power with his paada yatra, the film has been titled so.
Confirming the same, the director said, “Yes, we are working on the project. Since the film is still in the scripting stage, it is premature to comment.”

While the filmmakers are trying to seek permissions from concerned parties, a source reveals, “It’s YSR’s charismatic personality that prompted the biopic. The way he was voted to power in the 2004 A.P. General Elections, how his various welfare schemes (including loan waiver to farmers) benefited the people, etc., is always a story worth bringing on to the screen. YSR is quite a character who was more than what met the eye. The way he carried himself, his personality and how he was with well-wishers makes for an interesting story.”

The source adds, “What stands out is the way he has dealt with success and failure. His famous paada yatra eventually became a route to the Assembly for all politicians.” A mainstream actor from South India will play YSR in his biopic.
