With all the highs and lows that bands go through, here is a live act from the city that has made it to the 10 year mark! 1 Fret Away, a post grunge alternative rock band from the city will be celebrating their tenth anniversary, as they begin their 10th city album launch tour next week.
Their debut album titled I’m Not a Metal Head is inspired by life experiences that they have had, as Arwen M.A.G.M.A, the band’s lead vocalist says, “The things that I have felt and seen others in my life go through inspire the songs on our album.” When they started out as young college musicians who just wanted to play their music, 1 Fret Away never knew that they would be making it this far. Inspite of the constant lineup changes, the band has thrived 10 years in the music scene with Arwen M.A.G.M.A, Amogh Matt, Sameer Rao, Kanya Murali and Vinay Balodi being in the current line up.
The songs on the album I’m Not a Metal Head are ones that they have been performing for long at gigs that it was only natural that they record them. “We took our time with recording it and I’m glad we finally did it. The band will be heading out for a ten city tour and will release their debut album on their tenth anniversary, this October,” says Amogh.
1 Fret Away cites Foo Fighters, Seether and Nirvana as their biggest influences in music. Arwen says, “Whenever we composed music, it had that post grunge feel to it. The tone that we have, the drumming pattern, everything put together gives that grungy feel. Alternate rock is a mix of everything. It’s not a clean voice and it’s got a grungy tone to it.”
Kanya Murali, the drummer feels that being with the band has given her the performance exposure that she never had before. “Our music is very high energy, jivey and it gets people dancing.”
Arwen attributes the sound of the band to the like mindedness that they all share when it comes to the music that they have been brought up on. “The songs that I have been listening to for so long have got stuck in my head that whenever we compose, it has that post grunge feel to it. Individual influences matter a lot. The kind of musical influences that we all have brings a deeper flavour to the band. When it all boils down, it brings our music and we know that this is how it’s going to be and it feels right. It’s not about being perfect. It is about being right and that is what is important,” he says.
