A unique blend of music at Forplay

Peter Evans is a trumpet player and improviser/composer based in New York City.

Two musicians from two distinct musical backgrounds are coming together to enthrall music lovers in Kochi this month. Trumpet player Peter Evans and vocalist Amirtha Kidambi will go live at Forplay on August 21.

Peter Evans is a trumpet player and improviser/composer based in New York City. Evans is part of a broad, hybridised scene of musical experimentation and his work cuts across a wide range of modern musical practices and traditions. He also heads a group called Peter Evans Septet.

Evans has been performing and recording solo trumpet music since 2002 and is widely recognised as a leading voice in the field, having released several recordings over the past decade. He is a member of the cooperative group Pulverize the Sound.

As a composer, he has been commissioned by the International Contemporary Ensemble, Yarn/Wire, the Donaueschingen Musiktage Festival, the Jerome Foundation's Emerging Artist Programme, and the Doris Duke Foundation. Evans has performed at major festivals worldwide and tours extensively.

Amirtha Kidambi is invested in the performance of creative music, from free improvisation and jazz, to experimental bands and new music. Amirtha leads her own quartet called ‘Elder Ones’, whose debut album ‘Holy Science’ was released last year.

The performance will commence at 7.30 pm.
