Music buffs disappointed with David Guetta gig cancellation

The city that once had the image of being the hub of international artists is now withdrawing itself into a shell.

Bengaluru: Music lovers were left disappointed after a gig by Grammy award winning DJ David Guetta was cancelled in the city at the last minute on Thursday.

“We were all so excited! As a student, watching an international DJ at such a big fest is usually unimaginable. This time, the tickets were also reasonably priced. Some of my friends had even booked cars for the concert the day before and that went waste. This was just terribly organised,” said Neeta Bramha, a second-year student from Mount Carmel College.

“The least they could've done was to inform us in advance if they weren’t being allowed to host it. What were they hoping for, a miracle at the eleventh hour? First it was Hardwell and now Guetta. But at least Hardwell’s cancellation was announced early. I think I can say that we are all disappointed,” she said.

The Danish DJ’s concert that was to be held in the city towards the end of September 2015 was called off because of Section 144 imposed following Cauvery violence in the state.

The city that once had the image of being the hub of international artists is now withdrawing itself into a shell with one disappointment after another, said city rapper Gubbi. “It reflects really badly on the image of the city. It seems like what would have been a good music scene is now turning into an unstable series of cancellations,” he said.

“When someone as big as Guetta comes to play here, people show up and it may interest them in the genre, which is really a push to local artists as well. Of course, this situation will be looked at negatively no matter who is at fault and the sad thing is that international artists may just not want to come here anymore,” he said.
