Kadavul Irukkan Kumaru review: GV Prakash shines in a role tailor-made for him

Director Rajesh has traveled in his tried and tested formula of weaving a comedy caper with a wafer-thin story.

Cast: GV Prakash, Nikki Galrani, Anandhi, Prakash Raj, RJ Balaji

Direction: Rajesh

Director Rajesh has traveled in his tried and tested formula of weaving a comedy caper with a wafer-thin story and oft-seen settings in his earlier movies.

Kumar (GV Prakash) is just aimless and calls himself as a ‘locality boy’ (Local + city). He is to get hitched in a couple of days with Priya (Nikki Galrani in an extended cameo). He goes on a road trip to Pondicherry along with his friend Balaji (RJ Balaji) to celebrate his last few hours of bachelor life. While on his trip, he recalls his previous love story with Nancy (Anandhi) and how it ended as a failure.

Cut to present, after having a whale of a time partying by the beach, the duo returns to the city only to be caught by three corrupt policemen (Prakash Raj, Singam Puli and Robo Shankar). The reason being the cops find out that the twosome is carrying huge quantities of liquor from Pondy illegally.

Their attempts to escape fails miserably and they agree to part with three lakhs as bribe. Kumar’s repeated calls to Priya to help him turns futile but just a single call to Nancy solves the sticky predicament. Now, it’s time for Kumar to rethink whether he wants his ex, Nancy or fiancée Priya.

GV Prakash suits the role to a T and it’s tailor-made for him. Though Anandhi has a decent role, she could have taken care of her makeup, especially in song sequences. Prakash Raj and co manage to evoke some laughter. RJ Balaji’s comedy to some extent works despite his repetitive digs on Vijay, Ajith, Shruti Haasan, Simbu and even on GV Prakash’s earlier movies like 'Pencil' and 'Trisha Ilenna Nayanthara'.

The best part of the film is the spoof of a television reality show (which reminds us of Zee Tamil’s 'Solvathellam Unmai'), where actress Urvasi is the mediator and the way in which they exploit the commoner to improve their TRPs. All the characters are talking continuously without a break. Music by GVP is about adequate.
