The dapper cop of mini screen

Rayjan Rajan has a huge fan following after portraying Satyajith IPS in the TV serial Athmasakhi.

No matter what the world says about prime time TV serials, it has an insatiable audience. Today they have a new police officer to look forward to — IPS Satyajith — a character portrayed by a fresh face Rayjan Rajan.

Athmasakhi, a serial which commenced airing just a few months ago, has already become the talk of the town; thanks to Rayjan and his dashing onscreen persona as IPS Sathyajith. The first episode of the serial raked in more than 50,000 hits on YouTube just days after its launch and Rayjan was the talking point in the comments section.

On his mini screen entry, Rayjan says, “My first tele serial was Makal. Baiju chettan, who drove me from the location and back, was the reason I got into Athmasakhi. Director Mohan Kupleri got my photos from Baiju chettan and decided to cast me for the role.”

“I play the role of an IPS officer, the lead protagonist. The story revolves around the Manimuttam family and their adopted son Sathya. Sathyajith is a righteous officer and after he assumes charge as the city police commissioner, he puts a halt to the growing goonda menace. The serial also shows some socially relevant issues such as a recent rape attempt and how the officer solved the case,” explains Rayjan.

He claims that Malayali audience have not seen such a serial so far. “Almost all the characters are backed with strong professions. The lead female character Nanditha is a doctor. Sathyajith’s friends are a bold lawyer and a Collector. It tries to rise above the generic serial drama,” he comments.

Rayjan started his acting career with a short film Makachi and his next short film Black Hole will soon be released. “I always wanted to act, although the thought hadn’t crossed my mind until I joined for graduation. I completed my BSc in Electronics and worked for a while, but I wanted to act.”

Rayjan is aware of his growing fan network. “I sort of know it,” he says with a humble chuckle. “People have started recognising me and I get calls from across the globe,” he added.
