D Cinemaas encroachment row: Encroachment charges under active probe

Lawyer P.A. Ayub Khan said the report intended to delay the attachment of the property.

THRISSUR: The complainant and his lawyer in the alleged encroachment of D Cinemaas in Chalakudy owned by actor Dileep have come out against the Thrissur collector’s report to revenue minister E. Chandrasekharan saying more investigation needed to confirm and restore the land and no action could be taken in haste. Lawyer P.A. Ayub Khan said the report intended to delay the attachment of the property.

“We have submitted 59 documents to back our complaint during the UDF rule which has the complete history of the land that lies in Kizhake Chalakudi Village with survey numbers 680 and 680/1. In 1948, it was handed over to a royal family by Thiru Kochi Government and the there was another renewed order by Kerala Government in 1964 which says that after the use by the royal family, the land needs to be returned to the government,” Mr Khan said. "First, a person managed to get 10 cents with the deed from the government violating this order and nine such ten cent deeds were created and was sold to the owners of the D Cinemaas."

“Before the land revenue commissioner, the members of Palace Land Board, Cochin Devaswom Board, Revenue Intelligence and the tahsildar had given their statements, and inquiry reports and the commissioner ordered in November 2015 to start proceedings to take back the land from the theatre owners. But even after eight hearings at Thrissur collectorate, the revenue officials are yet to decide on the matter,” he alleged. He further said that during the time of UDF, collector M.S. Jaya and the actor's MLA friend backed him and during the LDF rule an LR deputy collector told us about a minister getting involved in the matter to protect Dileep,” he said.
