Nayanthara to reprise DIG D Roopa in AMR Ramesh's film

The actress in the running to essay the role of the cop who exposed the special treatment given to VK Sasikala.

Filmmaker AMR Ramesh known for making movies based on real-life sensitive issues like Cyanide (on the Rajiv Gandhi killing), Vanayuddham (on forest brigand Veerappan) and the recent Oru Melliya Kodu based on the suspicious death of Sunanda Pushkar is once again at it. Now, Ramesh is filming the life story of DIG D. Roopa, who made headlines with her controversial report. She brought to light the alleged special treatment given to AIADMK leader VK Sasikala at Parappana Agrahara prison where she is currently serving a jail term.

Ramesh has taken permission from Roopa who has now been transferred to a different department - Traffic and Road Safety in charge. The new film will be partly a biopic of Roopa - and will highlight the reported treatment and privileges given to Sasikala in the jail and the huge money exchanged in return.

Speaking to DC from Bengaluru, Ramesh said, "Yes, I have taken due consent from Roopaji and I'm now in the process of researching the various issues involved. Roopa madam has earlier exposed large-scale irregularities in the prison system like drug abuse by inmates, special treatment to Abdul Karim Telgi of the fake stamp paper scam, but it was her exposing Sasikala, which made her an overnight sensation. I need full proof of all the happenings as they are imperative for me before I proceed with the script-writing."

Meanwhile, Roopa also told us that she is happy to be associated with AMR Ramesh. "I found Ramesh a sensible director and he is renowned for his films on real-life subjects. So, when he approached me for a biopic on my life, I didn't have any apprehensions and gladly accepted. We had discussed my childhood, upbringing abd how I got interested in IPS post, so on... which he said was necessary for the story," Roopa exclaims.

Ask Ramesh on who he thinks is apt for the titular role, pat he replies, "The fronrunners would either be Nayanthara or Anushka Shetty for the role of a powerful police officer. I am also meeting other members of the community to get the inner details. It will take one more month to complete the final script. We will finalise the cast after that."
