From Kuthu' specialist to melody master!

Srikanth Deva is nearing his 100th film mark soon with Priyamudan Priya.

Music composer Srikanth Deva, who is nearing the 100th film mark soon with Priyamudan Priya, seems to be a happy man these days. The composer is excited about his upcoming Jiiva–Nayanthara flick Thirunaal in which he is taking on a new avatar. “Yes, I have this tag of ‘kuthu expert’ and I hope this film will break that image — and prove that I can also score melodious numbers. I have worked hard to create different types of songs,” Srikanth tells DC.

Srikanth, who used to compose for at least half a dozen flicks simultaneously, is now cutting down on his assignments. “I am looking at quality now, rather than quantity,” he says with a smile. With actresses crooning songs being the trend these days, Srikanth wishes that Nayan would sing a number for him sometime — “I wanted to rope her in to render one of the melodies in Thirunaal. Since she was too busy with her commitments, she could not dole out the time.”

He adds that, after a long gap, veteran singer S. Janaki has sung a song, ‘Thandhayum Yaro Thaayarum Yaro’ in the film. “I had earlier worked with noted singer P. Susheela amma. Then, it was my dream to bring in yet another biggie Janaki amma for a song. We recorded the song in Hyderabad and she completed it in one hour’s time,” adds Srikanth, whose fans gave gave him the sobriquet ‘Music Star’ recently!
