Pagiri deals with farmer's plight

The film deals with WhatsApp', which has become an integral part of all smartphone users.

National Award winning filmmaker Vasanthabalan was peeved with the Tamil filmmakers’ under-utilisation of Tamil language for their titles. “When I kept the title Angadi Theru (super market in English) for my film, people were asking if it was ‘Anganwadi’? Later, when I titled yet another film as Veyyil (hot sun) produced by ace director Shankar, he was asking if it would reach audiences? Now, the title Pagiri is similar to that,” remarked Vasanthabalan after releasing the first set of audio from the film. He adds, “When a director tries to bring in new Tamil words, one should accept it. Pagiri is the Tamil word for ‘WhatsApp’”.

The film deals with ‘WhatsApp’, which has become an integral part of all smartphone users. Isakki Karvannan is the director of the film, which has Prabhu Ranaveeran and Shravya in lead roles. The film talks about the plight of farmers in the state and has music by actor-turned-MLA Karunas, who was conspicuous by his absence.

Several celebs including Samuthirakani, Ravi Mariah, A Venkatesh, Marimuthu, TP Gajendran, Suresh Kamatchi, cinematographer Chezhian, actresses Namitha and Sakshi Agarwal attended the event.
