Chennai 28 II is the reason I came back to acting: Vijayalakshmi

In an interview to DC, Vijayalakshmi speaks about the upcoming sports comedy, her production venture Pandigai, and lots more.

Vijayalakshmi, who had quit acting, is back to donning the greasepaint as Selvi in the sequel of Venkat Prabhu’s 2007 blockbuster Chennai 28. In an interview to DC, Vijayalakshmi speaks about the upcoming sports comedy, her production venture Pandigai, and lots more.

When asked if Chennai 28 II is her comeback movie as an actor, she says, “No. I don’t think so. I stopped acting after marriage, and this movie is the only reason I will be back on screen. However, I would like to continue anchoring TV shows which I was doing for a while.”

The Katradhu Kalavu actor becomes excited when talking about the on-set experience with Venkat Prabhu and crew. “It was great to meet all the actors again. It was not like a shooting spot but more like a vacation where all the friends got together,” she says.

She says the taciturn Selvi has now turned into a chatterbox! “In the first part, I had more or less one dialogue — and it turned out to be an inside joke among our friends. But, in the upcoming film, Selvi won’t stop once she opens her mouth!” laughs Vijayalakshmi.

She is also donning the producer’s hat for her husband Feroz’s film Pandigai and adds that producing a film is painstaking — but she enjoys it anyway. Also starring Shiva, Nitinsathyaa, Premgi, Sampath and Ilavarasu, Chennai 28 II is almost at its tail end. The makers are now planning to shoot a promo song in an exotic foreign location.
