Aishwarya Rajesh is one actress who is always ready for challenges. After her powerful turn in the critically acclaimed and multiple award winning film Kakka Muttai, life has been rewarding for this beautiful actress. Chennai’s very own girl, who is also making her dream debut in Bollywood sharing the screen with Arjun Rampal in Daddy and foraying in Malayalam alongside Nivin Pauly, has a busy year ahead with more than half a dozen films including Kattapava Kanom in her kitty. In an exclusive with DC, Aishwarya speaks about as how she feels being in demand, how she goes about choosing scripts, unconcerned about being not a part of big-hero films, among others.
“More than being an actress, I always wanted to earn the name of a good performer and I have been striving towards that. Though I played the mother of two, a role beyond my age, it feels great when filmmakers approach me with varied roles trusting my capabilities,” the sultry actress says to start our conversation.
The actress has no qualms about not being a part of the big heroes’ projects. “I take things in a positive frame of mind. Maybe the right time, and the right kind of role needs to come. People have not yet seen me in modern and glamorous roles. That could also be one of the reasons. But all said and done, I had never felt or worried that I was not approached for big heroes’ movies. I am absolutely happy with the way my career graph is shaping up.” She adds quickly, “Working in K’town and getting an entry into Bollywood is not an easy proposition. Despite me not knowing the language, I got the chance to work with Arjun Rampal in Daddy; it is highly a performing character. Also, M’town beckoned me. In Nivin Pauly’s film, I play a girl who works in a hill station, and it is a meaty role. That way, I am gratified that my talents have been recognised.”
About choosing films she says, “Most of the directors with whom I have worked were debutantes. So, for me the script and my character are very important and I go with my gut feeling and most of the times it has proved that I was right.”
Aishwarya is excited about her B’town debut Daddy. “Though Hindi was an alien language, my entire team including the hero, director etc., treated me so well. They never saw me as a newcomer”.
After a long time, Aishwarya has a role that reflects her age and lifestyle in Kattapava Kanom. “The fantasy comedy is directed by debutant Mani Seiyon. I play Meenu opposite Sibiraj. She is bold and practical and represents a modern and urban girl who is just married. I could easily my character to real life.”
She has also completed Mo, a horror film and is looking forward to movies like Dharma Durai, Idam Poru Eval, Kuttramum Dhandanayum, and Parandhu Sella Vaa.
