Hansika at the top of her game

She plays a social worker who toils for the downtrodden, in her upcoming film Pokkiri Raja.

Hansika, who started off 2016 successfully with her horror franchise Aranmanai 2, says that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is her inspiration for being part of several causes in real life including the Swacch Bharat mission. She plays a social worker who toils for the downtrodden, in her upcoming film Pokkiri Raja. The gorgeous actress speaks about her crush on Bradley Cooper, how she is a secure person who does not believe in number games, and her fear of horror movies.

“The character I play in Pokkiri Raja (PR) is close to my heart as it reflects my real life personality. I play an IT employee who is into social service and the Swacch Bharat initiative. Though I am involved in various social causes, my inspiration for the ‘Clean India’ movement is our PM Modiji,” she says. Last year, she starred in many films, but the numbers seem to have come down this year — “As an actress, I can do only three movies in a year. However, I did four in 2015. This year has just started and with Aranmanai 2 getting great response. Apart from PR, I am doing Uyire Uyire and the remake of Hindi film Jolly LLB. A few more official announcements are yet come, so I guess this year also belongs to me (laughs).”

Speaking about her co-star Jiiva, Hansika says, “We knew each other even before working in Pokkiri Raja. Each time he sent me a script, somehow or other I could not team up with him — this time, he sent me a note along with the script that read, ‘It’s amazing Hansu and hope we work together’,” she smiles and says, “I play a strong character who supports the hero throughout the film.” Quiz her about she turning down a cameo in Simbu-Nayanthara starrer Idhu Namma Aalu, she says, “No, it’s a false news and no one approached me for a cameo.”

On her plans for Valentine’s Day, she laughs, “I am sure I will be spending time with the media and fans this year — I sort of love the idea! The audio of Pokkiri... is releasing in Coimbatore on February 14. But usually, we (girlfriends) greet each other. Ah, no boyfriends, I am in love only with acting.” The bubbly girl quickly blushes and adds, “I had a huge crush on my classmate when I was in Class Eight. Otherwise, it is Hollywood actor Bradley Cooper! I still have crush on him.”

Meanwhile, the actress proposes to hold an exhibition of her art to raise funds for a cause. “I am planning to hold an exhibition this year-end in Chennai. It is a fundraiser for the home I run where the children I adopted, reside. I have 33 kids and we have bought a piece of land near Mumbai where we plan to construct a school. It is materialising slowly but steadily, and my mom handles this huge project. During my free time, I paint a lot, based on various themes,” she tells us.

Quite content with how her life is shaping up, Hansika says she is the most secure person in the industry. “I don’t believe in number games. I am quite a secure person and I believe in hard work and giving good films. I love my job and I am happy about it.” And what’s next — again a horror film? “Not really. To be honest, I haven’t watched a horror film for the past 13 years But I do get several offers in the same genre. If it fascinates me I may consider. Also I’d love to do work with Vikram and Ajith,” she signs off.
