Method to the Maduve!

It's the season of weddings in Kannada serials, and everyone is making the most of this prolonged celebration.

In the past couple of weeks, many characters in Kannada serials have gotten married, and their grand wedding ceremonies have been the talk of the town! If you’ve not caught up with the serial grapevine, here’s your chance to! Many characters in serials have tied the knot in what is appearing to be the wedding season on Kannada television with at least three lead pairs in the serials — Aramane, Kinnari and Jodi Hakki witnessing the grand wedding celebrations which ran for several episodes. That apart, Putgowri Maduve, another popular soap is busy with the wedding preparations of its two characters — Mahesh and Hima. However, whether the two will get married is still mired in suspense, to be revealed in the next few episodes. Bengaluru Chronicle reports on these telly weddings. Among the other recently married bandwagon are Brahmagantu, Radha Ramana and Nagini.

The two “just married” couples from Jodi Hakki are the popular Rama and Janaki. “It was a great experience shooting for the wedding sequence. The makers shot every ritual which is normally followed in a Hindu ceremony. The preparation and the execution was on a grand scale and was perfect, right from the costumes, to makeup and the real location. The only bad experience I had was with the hair. It was too heavy and I could barely move my head around while shooting. It was not just the marriage, even the reception was shot with a lot entertaining programmes for the audience,” says Chaitra, who plays the character Janaki in Jodi Hakki.

She feels that the Kannada TV industry has seen an enormous change in the past few years. “As the reach is more, the quality of making serials has improved tremendously, and hence the change in the formats of present day serials,” she adds.

Meanwhile, Subramanya, a TV analyst feels that every new trend is an attempt to gain supremacy in the fight for TRPs. “Once a serial is launched on a grand scale, the makers make use of every special twist in the tale to draw the attention of the audience. Weddings are always top events planned much ahead. Film stars and popular actors within the same channels get involved to make it more special,” he says.

Shruthi, who watches Putgowri Maduve regularly is excited about the impending wedding of her two favourite characters. “After watching a serial for so long, the characters become a part of our life.

Nowadays, every occasion is being made to look special and it ends up making the audience feel special. In Putgowri, the tale has come to a crucial stage, and I cannot wait any longer to know more about the marriage. The only disheartening aspect is that the episodes are dragged to the maximum limit, and the marriage becomes too lengthy to enjoy,” she says.

For actors, it is certainly a pleasant change as they get a break from playing monotonous characters while travelling to real locations for reel weddings.
