Chinmayi returns to Tamil cinema, dubbing for Trisha in Leo

Thanks director Lokesh and producer Lalit for support

Renowned playback singer, voice artiste and television host Chinmayi Sripada is making a triumphant return to Tamil cinema, dubbing in what is slated to be one of 2023’s blockbuster releases — Thalapathy Vijay’ Leo.

The news broke on October 5th, when the film’s trailer was released. Shortly thereafter, Chinmayi announced that she had dubbed for Trisha Krishnan’s character in the movie.

Chinmayi expressed her gratitude to the film’s director Lokesh Kanagaraj and producer Lalit Kumar for their support, and the post is going viral. She said, “I am a million times grateful to Mr Lokesh Kanagaraj and Mr Lalit for having taken this stand. THAT. IS. MY. VOICE. IN. LEO. FOR. TRISHA. And guess what? I have dubbed in Tamil, Telugu AND Kannada.”

Trisha Krishnan promptly responded, “And I am so grateful to you. Thank you, Chin.”

In 2018, Chinmayi Sripada spearheaded the ‘Me Too’ movement in the south. She opened her profile to many women, who wanted to post stories annonymously about their sexual predators.

The singer/voice actor had earlier faced a ban by the Dubbing Union for naming Radha Ravi during the #MeToo movement and for her allegations against the Union’s leadership. She got an interim stay from the Court on the ban in April 2019, which allowed her to return to work. Although she lent her voice for actress Kalyani Priyadarshan in the film Hero, opportunities in Tamil cinema remained scant for her. Maestro AR Rahman used her as a playback singer last year in the Telugu version of Vendhu Thanindhathu Kaadu.
