Shriya Saran lands Naragasooran

The actress will be seen in the film, being directed by Karthick Naren, alongside Arvind Swami in a pivotal character.

Shriya Saran, remembered for her glamorous performances and excellent dancing skills, has been missing in action for over three years in Kollywood. While she continued to act in Telugu films, Tamil was not on her cards... until it was recently announced that she would be part of STR’s Anbanavan Asaradhavan Adangathavan, directed by Adhik.

Now, Shriya has been signed on to play an important role in director Karthick Naren’s Naragasooran, starring Arvind Swami, as well! A source close to the team says, “Naragasooran has an intense subject and Shriya will be portraying a pivotal character. In addition to them, actor Prithviraj’s elder brother, Indrajith Sukumaran, is also part of the movie. Shoot of this venture will begin in early August.”

Earlier, it was announced that Telugu actor, Naga Chaitanya, will be making his Tamil debut with Naragasooran. However, Chai has opted out of the project citing date clashes.

“The film’s script will revolve around four characters. Since Chaitanya had other commitments, he had to back out of the film. Currently, the makers are looking for a suitable replacement. After they find another actor, the first-look poster of the movie will be released,” adds the source. According to the source, the characterisations of the lead roles are gripping. “Each of them would have equal weightage in the movie and it is a performance-oriented role for all.”

Naragasooran is being co-produced by Gautham Menon. In a tweet, Karthick said, “The film is the second instalment of the thriller trilogy, which I would like to make and it belongs to the same universe of my debut project Dhuruvangal Pathinaaru.”
