Nagesh Thiraiyarangam lands in trouble

The film stars Aari and Ashna Zaveri and is directed by Isaq. Superstar Rajinikanth launched the teaser of the film a few months ago.

Late legendary comedian Nagesh’s son and actor Anand Babu has filed a defamation case at the Madras High Court against the makers of the film Nagesh Thiraiyarangam, seeking its ban. The film stars Aari and Ashna Zaveri and is directed by Isaq. Superstar Rajinikanth launched the teaser of the film a few months ago.

In his petition, Anand Babu stated, “My father, the late Nagesh, had acted in more than 1000 films and also built a theatre in T. Nagar — he was running it. The producers of the film, Nagesh Thiraiyarangam, did not take prior permission from us to use his name. Also, such a title is aimed to bring disregard to my dad’s name and fame. Hence, I seek a ban on the said movie.”

Reportedly, he has also claimed a compensation of ' 50 lakh for defaming his father’s name. It should be noted that Nagesh Theatre had been converted into a wedding hall many years ago.

In an earlier interview to us, Isaq had revealed, “Aari’s character name is ‘Nagesh’ in the film. And his father is an ardent fan of late comedian Nagesh and he owns the theatre named after the latter. The film revolves around the theatre.”
The court has sent a notice to the director and producer of the movie with a copy to the Tamil Film Producers’ Council.
