Trent Harmon wins American Idol finale

The final episode of the final season of hit music reality TV series American Idol took place on Thursday night, ending 15 years of discovering hidden talent from across the United States and turning them into pop stars.

While finalist Trent Harmon upset favourite La’Porsha Renae to win the title for the last time, the show itself was filled with throwbacks to the past as previous winners took the stage to perform during the finale. Former judge Simon Cowell also appeared on the show, which kicked off with US President Barack Obama talking about show and how it “transformed television”and “inspired young artistes”.

Host Ryan Seacrest, however, hinted at a possible return by saying “Goodnight America” for the last time, but added at the end, “For now.”
