Veteran actor Waheeda Rehman to receive Dadasaheb Phalke Award

Hyderabad: Veteran actor Waheeda Rehman is set to receive the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award, India’s highest cinematic honour, according to Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting Anurag Thakur. With a remarkable career spanning over five decades, the actor is celebrated for her iconic roles in films like 'Pyaasa', 'CID', 'Guide', 'Kaagaz Ke Phool', 'Khamoshi', and 'Trishul'.

Thakur announced the news on his official social media account, expressing immense happiness at honouring Waheeda for her outstanding contribution to Indian cinema.

The 85-year-old actor made her debut in Telugu cinema in 1955 with 'Rojulu Marayi' and later ventured into Hindi cinema with 'CID' in 1956 alongside Dev Anand.

Waheeda’s filmography includes over 90 movies across various languages, earning her a National Film Award for her role in 'Reshma and Shera' (1971). She has previously been honoured with the Padma Shri and Padma Bhushan awards. Thakur praised her lifetime of work, highlighting her philanthropic endeavours and contribution to society.

Rehman’s last appearance was in the 2021 film Skater Girl, marking a remarkable career filled with timeless performances.
