The industry made me survive'

National Award-winning actor Atul Kulkarni talks about his survival in the industry, changing times, working with the OTT, social media, and more.

Q. You seem to be involved in a lot of web series!

I think I have been lucky to be at the right place at the right time. I’m more than happy. This industry made me survive. It provided me with excellent roles and directors, as well as excellent scripts.

Q. Do you feel one has to change with the times?

It is important for an actor to change — whether it’s in relation to the craft or something which helps the art. As it’s a glamorous field, we have to be well equipped technologically.

Q. Do you think the Indian film industry is facing a dearth of writers?

I feel it is just the opposite – so many people with immense talent are coming into the industry every day. They hail from different parts of our country, and so bring in varied and good content. I am sure good writers will get a chance to present their stories to the audience through OTT platforms.

Q. What is your view of social media? Do you think it contributes a lot of negativity?

I think you see what you look for. If you seek negativity, you will be able to see only that. If you look for positive things, you will find plenty of those. I find so many positive things on social media. It’s like holding the remote control in your hand, yet blaming the show or the film. If you don’t like something, don’t watch it. We don’t want to look at the wonderful things on social media. It’s our responsibility to look at things which are positive.
