Exclusive: Varun Dhawan to play footballer in Shoojit Sircar's next

If sources are to be believed, Varun Dhawan is doing Shoojit Sircar’s next film, based on the real life of a footballer and his life-altering match. Shoojit was apparently keen on having Ranbir Kapoor on board for the lead role, since the actor is a football enthusiast in real life. Ranbir’s movie commitments — namely Jagga Jasoos and the Sanjay Dutt biopic — however, won’t allow him to take on new projects anytime soon. Hence, Varun stepped in.

The actor didn’t divulge any details about the project. “You should ask Shoojit about it,” he suggests. Meanwhile, the filmmaker isn’t too keen about discussing the project either. When prodded about the film, he said, “We are still scripting the film with my writer Juhi Trivedi.”
