Exclusive: Boney Kapoor and Sridevi's Mom goes over budget

Says a source, “Originally, 'Mom' was planned as a raw, real, and gritty drama of a mother's retaliation to her daughter's rape.\"

Mumbai: Boney Kapoor is known to make films on a huge canvas, which also tends to go grossly over-budget.

When he launched his youngest brother, Sanjay Kapoor, in 'Prem', the film dragged on for four years, and even underwent a major directorial change, from Shekhar Kapoor to Satish Kaushik.

The over-budgeting woes of Boney Kapoor’s

Roop Ki Rani Choron Ka Raja, which starred Anil Kapoor and Sridevi', is well-known. Said to have been a colossal flop, it was produced by Boney Kapoor and it nearly put him out of business.

When it comes to his darling wife Sridevi’s career, Boney is known to be an extravagant producer, and could hardly be expected to cut corners.

Sure enough, Boney has gone all out to ensure 'Mom', Sridevi’s first Hindi film since 'English Vinglish' hit all the right notes.

Says a source, “Originally, 'Mom' was planned as a raw, real, and gritty drama of a mother’s retaliation to her daughter’s rape. But as the shooting progressed, Boney decided to pull all stops to give the film a look of optimum gloss. Parts of the film were shot in Georgia, even though the script demanded no such destination shooting.”

Apparently, Boney has taken the film way beyond its original budget, making it one of the most expensive Sridevi-starrer ever.

The crucial question now is if the actress will be able to pull in the crowds for 'Mom', as she did for 'English Vinglish'.
