Sanjay Dutt surely appears to have come out of jail a wise man, a far cry from his reckless days of youth, when he was helplessly addicted to drugs. Now, we hear, the actor has expressed a desire to do his bit to spread awareness about the ill effects of drugs.
Recently, Sanjay Dutt admitted that there is no kind of drug that he has not tried in the past. In his younger days, Dutt used to be quite the addict and only after things spun out of control, did he confess to his father, the late Sunil Dutt, about his addiction.
The latter then sent his son to the US for rehab and when he finally returned home, Sanjay was completely cured of his addiction. In a previous interview, Dutt recalled an anecdote. He said that when his drug supplier knew he was back in the country, he came knocking at his door, to update him about the latest “stuff”. It was at that moment when Sanjay realised that if he said yes, he would never rid himself of his addiction. He refused and since then he has been off drugs.
A source close to the actor told us, “Sanjay is aware of how widespread the menace is in the country. When he was young, he wasn’t aware of the side-effects of drug abuse. So now, he wants to make the youth aware of how life-shattering drugs can be. He feels that it is the families of drug addicts who go through maximum suffering. He has told us to think of innovative activities through which he can reach out to the youth.”
