Libraries turn hotspot for job aspirants

Hyderabad: Eighty-three libraries run by the Grandalaya Samithi, which generally wore a deserted look, are currently abuzz with scores of job aspirants turning the facilities into study rooms, after the state government issued notifications to fill vacant posts.

Librarian Surya Prakesh, who oversees a library at Gunfoundry, said: “Over the past five or six months, the number of visitors has shot up to 150 per day, triple the average of around 50 readers.”

Srinivas, of Mahbubnagar, a visitor at the library, said: “I am preparing to crack Group 2 exam. This place is convenient for students who live in shared rooms or hostels, which are noisy.”

Mallikarjun, of Sangareddy, said: “These libraries are a boon to students, as we can access books on history or sociology, when needed. Most of the students who opt for these libraries are from the economically weaker families.”

The City Central Library has also clocked a sharp rise in visitors, with even open areas of the building occupied by job aspirants.

P. Sukesh Kumar, the librarian of CCL said: “Because of competitive exams, around 3,000 people are visiting each day after notification was issued. Earlier, it was around 500 each day.”
