HYDERABAD: Education minister Sabitha Indira Reddy inaugurated the renovated Zilla Parishad High School and the Telangana State Model School at Nednur on Friday. More than 1,100 students in these schools are to benefit from the initiative by Amazon Web Services (AWS), according to a statement.
Also launched at the event was AWS Think Big Space, a programme to enable students to cultivate an interest in science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics (STEAM) disciplines. This was accompanied by the launch of a morning supplementary nutrition programme for the students with support from the Sri Sathya Sai Annapoorna Trust.
The renovation project of ZPHS and TSMS at Nednur that was undertaken with SEARCH, a non-government organisation, included essential repairs such as electrification of all classrooms, construction of toilets, kitchen sheds and dining halls, and new flooring for the schools to ensure a safe and comfortable learning environment for the students.
It also included upgrading the playgrounds and equipping students with new sports kits to inculcate a strong physical exercise component, and collectively, these efforts are aimed at creating a hospitable environment for students to focus on their learning and development.
Minister Reddy said that as a part of the Mana Ooru-Mana Badi programme, the education department was developing over 9,000 schools in the first phase, as well as infrastructure to set up reading corners and libraries in 1500 schools.
