Kolkata hit-and-run case: TMC leader's son sent to 14-day police custody
Kolkata: A day after his arrest, Sambia Sohrab, main accused in the Red Road hit and run case, was remanded to two weeks police custody by the Bankshall Court. On Sunday afternoon the younger son of the Trinamul Congress leader Mohammed Sohrab was produced before a judge.
The youth faced night long interrogation in the chamber of joint commissioner of police (crime) Debashish Boral at Lalbazar, the city police headquarters.
He however allegedly did not cooperate during interrogation, according to sources. The court turned into a fortress with the deployment of a heavy police force led by deputy commissioner of police (central) A K Chaturvedi since morning.
Sambia has been booked 302 (murder), 307 (attempt to murder), 120B (criminal conspiracy), 201 (destruction of evidence) and several other charges of the Indian Penal Code.
During the hearing his lawyers prayed for his bail arguing that though car belongs to Mussadi Business Pvt Ltd, who was driving the car was yet to be established.
Opposing their move the public prosecutor appealed for two weeks' police remand of Sambia, pointing out Sambia's SUV, AudiQ&, had indeed hit IAF Corporal Abhimanyu Gaud after dashing a security personnel early on January 13.
Hearing both sides the judge rejected the bail prayer and sent Sambia to police custody for 14 days. Honey, one of Sambia's friends Johny who is absconding now, said in the morning that Sambia had actually surrendered to the police. "He called me up on Saturday saying that he was going to surrender," he claimed.
