India Inc defends Centre's policies of doing business

Industry came forward to defend government for making it easier for them to do business in the country in the last two years.

New Delhi: The government and India Inc is disappointed by World Bank keeping India at 130th position in its Ease of Doing Business ranking.

Industry came forward to defend government for making it easier for them to do business in the country in the last two years.

“I am a bit disappointed. Not only the government of India, but every state is so actively engaged and wants to ease the situation... But for whatever reason, it has not been adequately captured in the ranking,” Union commerce and industry minister Nirmala Sitharaman said on Wednesday.

“Collectively, Team India has been doing quite a lot of work,” she asserted. The minister said that she is not criticising the report and now they will work with renewed focus and speed to improve India’s ranking.

“It (the rankings) gives me the message that we have to be even more focused now and even speedier in doing ahead what we are doing,” she said. On the target fixed by the Prime Minister to get within the 50th spot, she maintained that this goal is intact.

Earlier secretary in the Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion Ramesh Abhishek and economic affairs secretary Shaktikanta Das defended the track record of Modi government.
