World Bank funding for road safety in Telangana

The Hyderabad- Bijapur road safety project is expected to finish by June next year.

Hyderabad: The World Bank has in principle agreed to fund up to Rs.1300 crore for major road safety measures along primary roads in Telangana.

The bank is currently funding the Hyderabad-Bijapur road project which packs trauma care facilities, ambulances, patrolling vehicles, breathalysers, police outposts and cranes. All this is in addition to other facilities which will be provided every 50 km. The Hyderabad- Bijapur road safety project is expected to finish by June next year.

“We have already rectified 30 curves, some of which were sharp. Junction improvements are also in progress. The new block in Tandur hospital on the Hyderabad-Bijapur corridor is being upgraded with trauma care facilities and ambulances with emergency equipment are being purchased as part of the World Bank funded project,” said an official from the Roads and Buildings division.

R&B Chief Engineer Ravinder Rao confirmed that the World Bank is willing to fund for road safety measures to bring down road accidents. Three consultants have been hired to identify road safety features and corrections required on major roads.
