Users can rate calls via Trai app

Telecom department (DoT) itself has been monitoring the quality of voice call after complaints of call drops by the subscribers.

New Delhi: In view of complaints of call drops, Trai on Monday launched the app MyCall that enables subscribers to rate the quality of a phone call. It is an attempt by the telecom regulator to crowd source the voice call quality monitoring.

Telecom department (DoT) itself has been monitoring the quality of voice call after complaints of call drops by the subscribers. The app will help it to get feedback directly from the consumers and from different places.

“The application will help mobile phone users rate their experience about voice call quality in real-time and help Trai gather customer experience data along with network data,” Trai officials said.

The app, currently available for Android users, can be downloaded from the Play store. After a call ends, a pop-up will appear requesting the user to rate the call based on their experience. The caller will have to select the rating in the form of stars and indicate whether the call was made indoor, outdoor or while travelling. Callers can also provide additional details such as noise or audio delay and mark a call drop. Users can configure the frequency of the pop-up.

Trai also launched a new version of “Myspeed App”, which allows users to measure 3G/4G mobile data speed and send the results to Trai.

The new version will enable Trai to obtain test data from users in all parts of the country, without any action by users.

These test would be brief, very infrequent and anonymous. As before, a user can also do a test and submit the results to Trai. Trai has also upgraded its ‘Do Not Disturb’ app with new features like an intelligent spam detection engine and updates about action taken on complaints within the app.
