Keeping that in mind, Union finance minister Arun Jaitley on Thursday proposed to create an integrated BEd programmes.

Hyderabad: With as many as 13 lakh untrained teachers, there have been many debates on the quality of teacher training. Keeping that in mind, Union finance minister Arun Jaitley on Thursday proposed to create an integrated BEd programmes.

Right now the integrated BEd course is being held in NCERT institutions like the Regional Institute of Education. An integrated programme is a combination of degree in arts, science, and education course. This required collaboration between the faculty and school of science, arts and education to ensure that the teacher could work not only in an educational institution but also in an industrial area related to science and arts.

The course, if properly implemented, could boost educational sectors and also help in job creation, said experts. Students aspiring to become science and mathematics teachers would be trained to teach mathematics, physics, chemistry and biology in this course.

Nagati Narayana of National Teachers Federation of India said, “Integrated BEd can be welcome on basis of an earlier experiment long ago. Details of the proposal have to be examined.’’

In particular, school education gets around Rs 50,000 crore, a nominal hike of Rs 3,644 crore over last year.
