Datsun redi-GO calls for 2 months of waiting period

The entry-level hatchback is in high demand and sources suggest that the bookings have already crossed the 20,000 mark.

Due to its competitive launch price and contemporary styling, the Datsun redi-Go stands ahead of its competitors like the Maruti Alto 800 and the Hyundai Eon. The entry-level hatchback is in high demand and sources suggest that the bookings have already crossed the 20,000 mark. It has a two-month waiting period, depending up on the variant you choose. However, on the occasion of the beginning of Chingam festivities in Kerala, the company delivered a record 310 units of the car in a single day.

The two base variants – D and A – of the redi-GO call for a waiting period of up to two months, while the top two trims – T and S – can be had in a month’s time, post booking. Starting at a price as low as Rs 2.38 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi), around 5,000 units of the car are reported to have been delivered until now.

The entry-level Nissan hatch has been able to make an impact on the Indian auto industry and has simultaneously helped the parent company witness an unprecedented growth of 126 per cent in July. Launched in June, the redi-GO registered sales of 576 (pre-bookings), 2,925 and 3,940 units in May, June and July, respectively.

With the tall-boy design and loads of features, the redi-GO makes up for a good choice for first-time car buyers. Powered by a 799cc, three-cylinder petrol motor, the redi-GO produces 54PS of power and a torque of 72Nm. Mated to a five-speed manual transmission, Datsun claims that the redi-GO returns 25.17kmpl of fuel efficiency.

In a segment in which Maruti dictated terms until now, the emergence of the Renault–Nissan alliance with cars such as the Kwid and the redi-GO is definitely good news, since buyers now have a lot of options to choose from.
