HYDERABAD: The Hyderabad High Court on Wednesday sought the response from the Andhra Pradesh government on a petition seeking to direct the state government to issue social status certificates in accordance with the orders of the Supreme Court.

A Division Bench, comprising Acting Chief Justice Ramesh Ranganathan and Justice K. Vijaya Lakshmi, was dealing with a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by Inapurapu Suryanarayana, resident of Kakinada, seeking to declare the action of  AP authorities in not streamlining the procedure for issuance of social status certificates and constituting scrutiny committee in the lines of directions in the case of Kumari Madhuri Patil versus additional commissioner tribal welfare department as illegal.

A. Satya Prasad, senior counsel appearing for the petitioner, submitted that the authorities concerned in AP were not following the directions of the Supreme Court in issuing social status certificates.

He said that though the Supreme Court had given directions almost a decade ago, till date, a scrutiny committee has not been constituted in the state. While admitting the PIL, the Bench issued notices to the Andhra Pradesh government and its authorities, directing them to file counter affidavits and posted the case to March 20.
