Hyderabad: A US-based analyst for business operations and IT services has stated that about 6.4 lakh of lesser-skilled employees would be removed from their jobs due to the introduction of automation and robotic tools in five years. HfS, the analyst, said the Telugu states would lose about 30 per cent jobs, or about 1 lakh jobs. It said its study covered 1,477 organisations.

IT experts from India, however, said the impact would not be as bad. Ms Sangeetha Gupta, vice-president of the IT industry body Nasscom, said jobs would be new jobs would be created in the sector.

TS IT secretary Jayesh Ranjan told this newspaper that the study was not based on a city or a state. “The report was given for the global IT sector,” he said.

The report said job opportunities would increase for medium skilled workers by 8 per cent and high skilled employees by 56 per cent. Mr Ranjan said the state government was concentrating on improving skills in the industry. “We have launched TASK centres across the state to improve the skills of the youth to meet the requirements of IT firms,” he said.

Besides, the new IT policy released by the government would generate more jobs. “We are expecting 10 lakh new jobs in five years. As per our goals, employment will be doubled year on year,” he said.
