TNSTC staff claim plastic rice was served

Around hundreds of transport workers protested in front of the depot demanding to change the mess contractor.

Coimbatore: Tension prevailed at the Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation (TNSTC) bus depot near Sungam on Wednesday while a few transport workers gathered in front of the depot gate along with balls made out of cooked rice supplied to them at the depot mess claiming it to be plastic rice. Hundreds of government bus drivers and conductors working under the Sungam bus depot having their lunch at the private mess inside the depot, which is supplied to them at subsidized  rates.

Meanwhile around hundreds of transport workers protested in front of the depot demanding to change the mess contractor and supply quality food. They started to bounce the balls made of rice and alleged that they were made out of plastic rice, they also said that the food supplied to them is bad. The workers urged the food adulterants department and civil supplies officials to enquire and sent the sample to the lab to get confirmed. The protest remained for more than an hour.
