Mohan Hemmadi, the man behind many beautiful classical music extravaganzas across the city, organised under his ‘Surmandal’ programmes, was recently felicitated for his contribution in the field of music at Bengaluru. He was awarded the Chowdiah Memorial Award for his dedicated work spanning over five decades in the pursuit of art and culture.

Expressing how he feels about receiving the honour, he says, “Normally this award is for musicians and this is the first time that they have awarded people who are not musicians. It’s a great encouragement for me and Surmandal. It’s been five decades that I have been working in this field in Hyderabad. And it is really nice that people from Bengaluru are coming forward to recognise my contribution. I feel special!”
