If he created a huge stir with his earlier movie Sivappu Enakku Pidikkum, where he stressed on the need for having licensed ‘Red Light’ areas in Chennai like the ones in Mumbai, ace writer and filmmaker Youreka has once again picked a controversial subject for his next. Titled Kaatupaya Sir Intha Kaali (tweaked out of a famous dialogue of Rajinikanth from Mullum Malarum), KSIK talks about how the corporate companies giving out loans to buy automobiles and which are predominantly run by North Indian financiers, usurp money from innocent people by taking advantage of their craze for buying anything in installments.

Talking to DC, Youreka says, “I am not doing anything to gain attention. The plot was taken from a real life ghastly incident that took place in Valasaravakkam in the city. I was upset and started doing research on who’s actually behind these, which is when I got shocking revelations. If it was ‘Kanthu Vatti’ (charging exorbitant interest for the money lent) by private financiers, which was driving people to suicide, now it is the turn of corporate financiers who indulge in usury and act as mafia when a buyer defaults. And to my knowledge most of honchos are from banks and big private institutions and they are mostly from the North.”
Moreover, the director claims he took a leaf out of his own life experience. “I am confident that everyone would have gone through this at one point or other and would relate to it when they watch the film which is happening in and around Chennai. There are a lot of emotions in the social thriller, which has an arresting climax.”

Why the title, we ask. “There’s no romance segment in the film. The hero (played by Jaiwanth) is a ruthless and rude police officer who has been suspended but is brought back to investigate a series of crimes. The title refers to him and we took proper permission from the makers of the earlier film. Aira who did Dhayam is the female lead.”
