The actor will be seen in the controversial film, 'Padmavati,' as the primary antagonist.

Mumbai: Ranveer Singh and pretty much every name associated with Sanjay Leela Bhansali's upcoming magnum opus 'Padmavati' have been dealing with a tumultuous few days.

The actor, who plays the film's primary antagonist 'Alauddin Khilji,' had received widespread appreciation after his character's first look alongside a few glimpses had been made public in the film's trailer. Starring rumoured beau Deepika Padukone as the eponymous Rani Padmavati and Shahid Kapoor as Rana Rawal Ratan Singh, the film is touted to be the biggest Bollywood release of the year.

Ranveer, in the spirit of the turn of events, shared a meme that juxtaposed images of his Alauddin Khilji and Heath Ledger's Joker from Christopher Nolan's 'The Dark Knight' and Malcolm Mcdowell's Alex DeLarge from Stanley Kubrick's 'A Clockwork Orange'.

The meme, which originally featured Brad Pitt's Tyler Durden from David Fincher's 'Fight Club' has been doing the rounds on the internet since a few odd years. However, Ranveer's version, presumably edited by a fan, hasn't gone down too well with fans of the original cult performances.

The actor, in turn has been mercilessly trolled for his 'misdemeanour,' by sething fans, who have accused him of selling himself too high.

Earlier, Vivek Oberoi had also come in for a lot of flak, for comparing his performance in 'Krrish 3' with Heath Ledger's Joker.

Since Ranveer's film is yet to release, one might give him the benefit of doubt to see if he's earned his position in the 'coveted meme' with a truly phenomenal performance.
