RTC charges Re 1 more for diversion

The diversion is caused by the construction of Hyderabad Metro Rail works.
Hyderabad: The RTC has increased the fare of bus tickets on the Chaderghat-Nalgonda crossroads-Dilsukhnagar route by Re 1, citing the diversion caused by the construction of Hyderabad Metro Rail works and road digging works by other agencies. RTC buses have been diverted via Golnaka, No. 6 crossroads at Amberpet and Moosarambagh, increasing the distance by 2 km.
RTC executive director A. Purushotham said it was a temporary hike and would be withdrawn after two months when the diversion was withdrawn.
However, commuters reacted angrily.
“Will they reduce the ticket fare if for some reason the route is shortened? The RTC did not inform or consult the passengers before revising the fare,” said Prakash Rao, who travels daily from Erraggadda to Dilsukhnagar. “The main problem is we have to get down at Chadreghat and walk or take an autorickshaw to Nalgonda crossroads,” said Ms K. Sravani, another RTC regular. Passengers booking tickets for the Sankranti festival holidays complained that the RTC had jacked up prices on long distance services.
“The TSRTC is charging 50 per cent extra in the name of special buses,” said Hitech City resident K. Subba Rao, who is a native of Ongole in Prakasam district.
