‘An impossible, impractical solution to the city’s traffic chaos’

The Home Minister’s plan of cutting down waiting time by half at traffic junctions is not a practical solution.

The Home Minister’s plan of cutting down waiting time by half at traffic junctions is not a practical solution. In fact, it is impossible and even if its implemented, it will be a failure. The ideal speed of the vehicles in the Central Business District has been reduced to a single digit due to huge traffic. It’s time to work out plans so that the speed limit can be increased and not to reduce it to just 16 kmph. I have not seen any place in the world where the speed limit has been reduced to 16 kmph.

Reducing the vehicle speed to 16 kmph will serve no purpose at all – in fact the reduced speed will only be a hindrance and cause inconvenience during emergencies or accidents. Even if the government takes it forward, people would not at allow it to happen. In fact, the government should think of increasing the speed limit to 40 kmph. For this they have to improve the road condition and think of alternate solutions.

The government and police in other cities are not doing any magic to keep the vehicles moving. It’s just that there should be a proper plan and initiative by the government.

Unfortunately, the government here is not thinking of any alternate measures. First, the government should improve the roads and then the traffic congestion will definitely come down. The Traffic Management Centre cannot not be centralised if they have 100 junctions to monitor at a time.
